The association AGAPE was created on May 10, 2013 with the objective of setting up and managing a Centre for the supervision of street children. It obtained its approval on July 18, 2017 from the State of Cameroon as a PSO (Private Social Work) in accordance with the ARRÊTÉ N ° 2017 / AS / 0022 / A / MINAS / CAB /IG / I2 of July 18, 2017 bearing definitive authorization for the opening and operation of the Private Social Work named "CENTRE AGAPE". Proof that AGAPE meets the requirements of the ministry in charge of government policy on safeguarding the interests of the child. This was done in front of an audience of guests including administrative authorities, representatives of business leaders, neighbors and other personalities.  The new headquarters will be a vital resource for the Agape Association, enabling it to continue to support hundreds of street children living in poverty in Douala, by providing them with food, education and dormitories. The association, which is run entirely by volunteers, has helped more than 40 street children since its inception. ***These images are the result of nearly 7 years of reflection and hard work. It is the result of an honest and healthy collaboration between AGAPE Association and our main partner, SOLENCA Association. It is the repercussion of the support of persons with big hearts, companies and institutions. The cutting of the RIBBON of the Center through the inauguration of October 29th gave the possibility to the youth of the*** ***AGAPE*** ***Center to take possession of their house. The construction work still needs to be finished, especially on the top floor. This will establish the association in a more spacious and permanent setting, better suited to its needs and those of the children. This was in May 2016. After a long period of waiting, the title deed for the plot of land jointly purchased by AGAPE and SOLENCA for the construction of the future AGAPE Centre is finally available. It is with great joy that we received this news at the end of May 2018 **Building permit for the future AGAPE Centre in Japoma** It took some time. But once it was available on 13 June 2019, things accelerated. It was out of the question for our partner SOLENCA and us to commit to it without this document. **Donation from Addax Petroleum for the electrification of the future centre** The Addax company has shown its support for the construction of the future AGAPE Centre, by taking charge of the cost of electrification of the new building. This is how the electrical equipment was made available to the centre's managers. And thanks to the help of Mr. Aliyou, a friend and fervent supporter of AGAPE who lives near the construction site, we were able to store this equipment at his home. This was done so that it would be immediately accessible when the construction site started.  The first five months of 2020 at the AGAPE Center was peaceful, and unusually, lacking in events. It started with the outing to Tchop and Yamo, as a reward for the young people who behaved well and who had good results at the end of the first quarter. It was then marked by the participation in the coordination meeting of associations and private social works (OSP), organized by the departmental delegate of social affairs, at the Reception and Observation Center of Bépanda Omnisports (CAO). This period was also marked by the resumption of work on the new AGAPE Center in Japoma. These first five months of 2020 at the AGAPE Center ended with the Aliyou family's visit and donation; but also with the interviews in order to manage the period of stoppage of the courses and for the measures to be taken to block the road to the spread of the virus   The year 2020 has started well at the AGAPE Center. The young people who worked well and who had an exemplary attitude during the first trimester were able to benefit from an outing to Tchop and Yamo. It is this fast food located on the other side of the city, in Bonamoussadi. The young people were very happy, especially the girls! Living close to their schools, it is not always easy for them to go as far from home. They were able to discover a little more about the city, a new district and especially Tchop and Yamo. They were delighted with this great experience. The less deserving, who often had the opportunity to go there a few times for big outings, promised to work better during the second quarter; to deserve a nice reward too. It is always fashionable to work closely with social services. Because they are the ones who make our actions legitimate. Ordinarily, we hold one meeting per quarter. It was the first meeting of the year. This is how we took part, as with each request from the head of the social center and the departmental and regional delegates, for coordination meetings often focused on raising awareness, debriefing and exchanges on the progress of activities on the ground, while noting the various difficulties constituting an obstacle to the proper functioning of these. These meetings are also moments of meetings between the promoters, staff and supervisors of the different organizations, who have the opportunity to share their various experiences on various subjects or on specific concerns. Mr. Aliyou and his wife are considered as the godfather and godmother of the AGAPE Center. They are always in contact and act behind the scenes. They thought of the young people in the center and brought them provisions on March 8. Especially a fundamental element at the moment, the hydroalcoholic gel. Following some misunderstandings and difficulties noted on the ground, the site had to stop for a moment, thus being considerably delayed. It became difficult to work and take a break every week, to think about how to get around a problem we were facing. Some of these difficulties even required small modifications to the plans. We hope to be able to leave without major concern, until full delivery And despite the current context dominated by the Coronavirus / Covid-19 pandemic, we remain confident and optimistic, knowing that we could always count on you and on your unwavering support, regarding the supply of financial and material resources for the project, at the end of this calamitous episode. The government's decision to put in place some restrictive measures in the middle of March, such as closing schools to stop the spread of the virus, was welcomed by the Cameroonian people. But only the establishment of a number of measures is not enough. It is important to think about their implementation, their control and their follow-up. It was at this point that we c it appropriate to speak with the young people from the center on the one hand, and with their parents and them jointly on the other. It was a question of letting those who still do not know it know that this virus is a reality. And that is why the schools had to send the children home. It was essential to make it clear to young people and their parents why the schools were closed. To allow them to stay at home in order to limit the spread of the virus, and not for anything else (walks, playing soccer ...). To this end, we have also given young people outside the center leave until further notice, in order to avoid movement between their homes and the center. Their parents also needed to understand this, so that there were no misunderstandings, and so that they did not feel that their children had been left out of the program. After clarifying things, we focused on prevention, hygiene measures and other measures to put into practice to avoid contamination as much as possible. It was an interesting exercise, which allowed parents and children to learn about this disease, and to take care of the various recommendations made by health professionals. Finally, we have implemented one of the simplest measures, that of systematic hand washing. We all put it in practice.     The growing threat of the virus has prompted the authorities in Cameroon, as elsewhere in the world, to temporarily close schools, training centers, universities, university institutes and professional colleges. It was out of the question to anticipate the second quarter holidays by crossing our arms and playing against the clock. But quite simply to furnish your days as well as possible, as if you were at school. It is an exercise to which the young people complied without the slightest difficulty. The AGAPE association was officially recognized on July 18, 2017 by the State of Cameroon as a PSO (Private Social Work) in accordance with ARRETE N ° 2017 / AS / 0022 / A / MINAS / CAB /IG / I2 of July 18, 2017 carrying definitive authorization for the opening and operation of the Private Social Work named "CENTRE AGAPE". Proof that AGAPE meets the requirements of the ministry in charge of government policy on safeguarding the interests of the child. *Save children from the dangers of the streets and enable every child in need to develop her full potential by providing her with a safe environment and the tools to positively impact her life and community.* **AGAPE Association aims to work in a multidimensional way in the care of Vulnerable Children in order to facilitate the optimisation of their social, educational, professional status and their integration into society.** We provide them with a house to live, rest, study, relax, play and socialize. we offer them a snack upon return from school and a hot meal for day student; intern have 3 meals a days. Financial support for tuition and supply. homework support. Extra circular activities offered by voluntary (football, music, theater, swimming). We organize sporadic visits in order to keep them healthy. We provide psycological support to children through listening and counselling. Their age allows them to be taken care of in an institution. Indeed the regulations of the Ministry of Social Affairs in Cameroon do not allow children over 18 years old to be taken care of in an institution. Those ones live in the Japoma Center. ***The New-Bell profiles****:* Some of those youth are over 18 years old (because they integrated the educational system later, they will finish their schools later). The other part is girls. The structure does not allow us to consider care in a mixed institution. The common point is that AGAPE finances their studies, takes care of their health and follows them within their families.  They are aged from 10 to 22 years old. The level of study also varies from CM1 (grade 4) to 1st year of university. Many of the children were victims of child labor; begging, street selling or working to survive or sustain their families. Some were in need of education, manners, and ethics. Now at the AGAPE center, they live a normal childhood in a safe environment, they are educated, they socialize, learn to live in a community, respect rules of hygiene and have high moral standards ethics. have successfully passed The Probatoire (11th grade diploma) is in training in electricity, refrigeration and air conditioning Young people with a BEPC and CAP are employed in companies as storekeepers and maintenance agents We facilitate their integration into the society, with the aim of offering them a future as complete individuals, earning their life honestly, contributing positively to the success of the society. They become citizens who contribute socially and economically to the evolution of the society, by forming stronger family cells morally ant spiritually. These children would otherwise be begging on the streets or selling worthless items in order to eat and support their families. "*My dream is see our AGAPE children becoming balanced, happy and successful people in the future*" "*I have so much passion in helping the underprivileged ones and I see it as an orderly way of helping them*" *"Train us the child in the way that he should grow and when he is old he will not depart from it" Proverb 22:6* *"I am originally from Mali, my husband Georges is from Cameroon. I have 4 children ( ranging from toddler to teenager). I hold a degree in Medical Biological and Business Administration. In addition to the AGAPE center, I also run a play center in Douala. I have lived in different countries out of Africa, but I have always had the passion to be helpful to my continent and the world. I have always been concerned about the living conditions of children around me. For instance, my house has always been full with children. Seeing children in the street, mistreated or in vulnerable conditions makes me feel very bad. This is actually one of the reasons which motivated me to initiate the AGAPE Project. My strong faith in God is what gave me the strength to start the project and drive it. My dream is see our AGAPE children becoming balanced, happy and successful people in the future. I hope they will all have a decent job and a balanced family one day. I feel so much joy not seeing them in the streets anymore working or begging under the sun or the rain; but going to school, eating, playing and learning like any other children of their own age! I highly plead with everyone to keep giving and sharing love the way they can in order to change lives and our world to a better one step at the time. AGAPE has made me encounter many humbling and extraordinary situations and people. Thank you on my behalf and on behalf every AGAPE child for sharing your time, talents, advices, hardly earned money and love to make AGAPE possible. Be simply blessed!"* *I am a Cameroonian and was born in Lagos Nigeria.I hold a degree in Medical Laboratory Science and also own a restaurant in the city of Douala where I reside. I have been working and supporting the less privileged (street children and orphans).* *I joined the Agape Center because I have so much passion in helping the underprivileged ones and I see it as an orderly way of helping them.Orderly in the sense that these children will grow normally in a right environment, they can grow up and also have the same opportunities as their peers in other parts of the world. I am a Christian and married with four children* *My name is Patricia Tope. I was born and raised in a typical Cameroonian extended family, the youngest of five children.* *The religious foundation which I got earlier on has been an important part of my life. I am married and a proud mother of 3 wonderful kids aged, 11, 7, and 6 years old. I have over 16 years working experience in various fields ranging from aviation, telecommunications, wood trading and most recently, mining and consulting services in the oil industry. I am the Executive Director of Kimmart Group.* *I am one of six members in my Parish heading the CARITAS group working with the underprivileged and the poor in my community at the Sts Peter and Paul Cathedral Parish Douala.* *When Adama approached me about setting up a center for street children, I saw it as an opportunity to give back and make a difference in the children's lives.* *Adama told me her vision to help get these kids off the streets by offering the possibility of getting an education or learning a trade, while providing them a hot meal a day, medical treatment in case of illness and a place where they can do their homework under supervision. She was already working with 2 amazing ladies who had been working with street kids for years though not under a known structure.* *I am happy to be on this project and I wish every street child will have a home to support their growth and make them better people in the society. Children are our future, let us work in unity to give them a brighter future.* *I am Rosalind Tubman Brown a native of Liberia and I consider Cameroon my second home. I hold a graduate degree in International Education specializing in Development and an undergraduate degree in Economics and Finance. Currently I work in the Financial Services Industry. I am married with 2 children.* *"Children are a heritage from the Lord" Psalm 127:3 I believe that every child is full of potential and that despite the cards they are dealt, with help and God's grace, they can push through their ceilings and succeed. This is why I joined the AGAPE team.* *AGAPE aims to create an environment that refocuses street kids and gives them the opportunity to be "kids", to be nurtured, to know God, to learn, to dream and to realize their dream. Because of the necessary relationship with the other that it induces, the sports and/or physical activity is often practiced to encourage exchanges and meetings at the beginning of the period and to facilitate the creation of a group. Added to this, we do not hesitate to go on outings in order to allow the young people to discover other realities of life than those of their surroundings. This also helps to boost their self-esteem. The children we accompany have such a traumatic experience of life that only the right talk, the right listening can give them back their self-confidence. This work is done through individual listening sessions and group meetings. These sessions aim at allowing people in doubt or in major difficulties to feel better, to mobilize and develop, in an autonomous way, their own attitudes and resources to face these situations. AGAPE is a non-profit organization, which originated from the desire to help children in difficulty, most of whom begged in the streets of Douala. Mrs Adama Traore-Wega, moved to Cameroon with her family, got concerned by the regular presence of children she saw in the streets, in front of supermarkets, pharmacies and other businesses at all times of the day. At first, she gave them money like everyone else; later, she became concerned by the fate of the children she saw regularly. She got to know them, they confided that they begged, were street selling or other activities such as scrap metal collection, in order to provide for their own basic needs (food, schooling) and their families’ in some cases. Some were expelled from school for small amounts of money not having been paid. She helped them by asking to show her their report cards in exchange. They did eagerly at the end of the term when they met each other. She realized that if not helped, they would continue to be exposed to multiple dangers of the streets (school dropout, substance abuse, assault, sexual slavery …). She reflected on a permanent way to help. **In 2013,** helped by Armstrong Chirk, she shared with them the idea of creating a center. Together they agreed that the center would be a second home for them: to keep them away from the dangers of the streets, to develop themselves by eating, playing, learning, watching TV, but most of all, by going to school. Most of them agreed and some of them were even relieved about this interview. To do so, she rallied relatives, friends and co-funders Mrs Nadya Mukete, Mrs Rosalind Brown, Mrs Patricia Tope, to this cause and the adventure began with the creation of the AGAPE association, which led to the establishment of the AGAPE Center.  Birth of the AGAPE association, a non-profit organization registered in accordance with the provisions of Law No. 90/053 of Cameroon of December 19, 1990 on the freedom of association.  AGAPE association was registered at the Prefecture of Wouri under number **220/2013/RDA/C19/SAAJP**; where it was signed on and then opened its doors in September 2013. **October 2021** The Japoma Center built on about 600 m2 is inaugurated with finishing work ongoing Copyrights © 2012 - 2023 - All rights reserved. My dream is see our AGAPE children becoming balanced, happy and successful people in the future. I have to start by saying that I am just the name to display God' love (AGAPE) in so many people working for AGAPE. "I am a lover and follower of Jesus. I am originally from Mali and Canadian. My husband Georges is Cameroonian. We have 4 children. I have lived, studied, and worked in 8 different countries on 3 continents. I hold a Bachelor in Medical Biology from Canada and a Business Diploma from the UK. I initially worked for the Canadian Government in Ottawa, then in Brussels. Due to family expatriations, I have been involved in different projects involving children or not: President of the PTO, at the American School of Douala, Founder and General Manager of a PlayCenter, Board member at ICSA, Coordinator for Moms in Prayer Ministry, Consultant in Translation... With my husband, we have always had the passion to be helpful to the African continent and the world. My love and concern for the wellbeing and success of children around me is reflected in my occupations. Seeing children in the street, mistreated or in vulnerable conditions simply overwhelms me. My heart just cries out in despair. This is actually one of the reasons which motivated me to initiate the AGAPE Project. My strong faith in God is what gave me the strength to start the project and drive it. My dream is to see our AGAPE children living their true destiny, becoming balanced, happy and successful people in the future. I hope they will all have a decent job and a balanced family one day. I feel so much joy not seeing them in the streets anymore working or begging under the sun or the rain; but going to school, eating, playing and learning like any other children of their own age! I highly plead with everyone to keep giving and sharing love the way they can in order to change lives and our world to a better one; one step at a time. AGAPE has made me encounter many humbling and extraordinary situations and people. Working for AGAPE has not been easy everyday, but each time I thought about dropping out, a miracle simply happened... and everything continued... I am so blessed to serve on this project and the children in it! I have so much passion in helping the underprivileged ones and I see it as an orderly way of helping them. My name is Nadya Biaka epouse Mukete Josephine. I am a Cameroonian and was born in Lagos, Nigeria. I hold a degree in Medical Laboratory Science and I am presently the CEO of UNIVERSAL LOGISTICS, which is a trucking transportation company based in Douala where I reside.  I have been working and supporting the less privileged (street children and orphans)for over 17 years. I joined the Agape Center because I have so much passion in helping the underprivileged ones and I see it as an orderly way of helping them. Orderly in the sense that these children will grow normally in a right environment and also have the same opportunities as their peers in other parts of the world.  I am a Christian and also a leader in my local church assembly. I am married to the Paramount Ruler of Kumba and the Bafaws and we are blessed with four children and a son-in-law. Train us the child in the way that he should grow and when he is old he will not depart from it" Proverb 22:6 I am Rosalind Tubman Brown a native of Liberia and I consider Cameroon my second home. I hold a graduate degree in International Education specializing in Development and an undergraduate degree in Economics and Finance. Currently I work in the Financial Services Industry. I am married with 2 children. "Children are a heritage from the Lord" Psalm 127:3 I believe that every child is full of potential and that despite the cards they are dealt, with help and God's grace, they can push through their ceilings and succeed. This is why I joined the AGAPE team. AGAPE aims to create an environment that refocuses street kids and gives them the opportunity to be "kids", to be nurtured, to know God, to learn, to dream and to realize their dream. A place to have fun and stay out of the street dangers. In order to show the kids that they can really have fun without being on the streets, AGAPE has put in place a whole set of activities, managed by our numerous volunteers. These games and activities will help increase their knowledge. These activities would not have been possible without the participation of our numerous volunteers.
